I was pleased to get an email from H&R Block PR recently filling me in on some cool stuff that they’re doing. Who says taxes can’t be more enjoyable?
This year, H &R Block is taking their tax tools to the masses and bringing consumers into the experience:
- H&R Block’s Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/HRBlockOnline With over 800 fans signing themselves up in a single week, and a chance for everyone to win and file their taxes for free, the page is full of important information: test your tax knowledge, get your financial fortune told, score big as “The Deductor” and rack up your tax deductions. You can even see how well you and your friends match financially (just in case you were considering which friend you should ask for financial advice).
- H&R Block is also on MySpace, where Truman Greene, HRB’s #1 fan, has made his presence known: www.myspace.com/trumangreene. Using Truman’s own YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/trumangreene) and a little bit of creativity, he’s letting people know that they don’t have to be scared of taxes or the people who love them.
- http://digits.hrblock.com: financial services forum, including valuable tax information
The Twitter content is impressive, the Facebook page is fun, and the forum content is helpful. Good work.
Unfortunately, 3 of 4 is the result… that “#1 Fan”? Yeah, complete marketing schmultz. Sad, considering the other three are real and useful.
It’s great to see a traditional company in an highly traditional industry that’s better known for being incredibly boring starting to reach out to people in a much more helpful and fun way.
