Location: Southeastern US
I have worked in new media for 13 years, with most of the time spent developing content for television and print media Web sites. I am looking for a position that could utilize my abilities in news-writing, community building and converting media from use on TV and in a newspaper into an interactive form that attracts Web interest.
I’ve worked on several online news content management systems successfully, usually with very little prior training. I have blogged in different mediums since 2001 and have worked with WordPress, MT and Blogger extensively. I’ve also worked with other new media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter and Seesmic. Not only am I interested in developing community platforms for traditional media sources, I’m intrigued by the possibilities of using mobile platforms more effectively not only to get news headlines, but be an active participant in the process.
As far as generating content, I have experience in subjects as varied as sports, entertainment (both American and international), technology, marketing and human-interest/community-based subject matter. Also, for most of my career I have specialized in producing breaking news events online, so I have developed the ability to gather content and write content on the fly with little supervision, adding and editing elements as the situation develops. This is a skill that is invaluable in a new media environment, where content needs change every second.
Other skills:
- Skilled in the usage of the Adobe suite of products, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, and Fireworks.
- Proficient in usage of non-linear editing systems, studio cameras and other equipment used in the production of newscasts.
- Proficient in HTML. Knowledge of XML, SQL, Perl, Javascript, and other programming languages.
- Over five years of experience in customer service.
- Extensive training in public relations and marketing.
Would be interested in both full-time positions with relocation or part-time consulting.
