Location: New York, NY
Okay, here’s my pitch: As the solo operator behind my blog, I’ve been able to grow the site to more than 1 million page views per month, while nurturing a dedicated community of 500 registered users, 2000 contributors, 10,000 subscribers, and 300,000 monthly visitors. (My site also has a 2000+ friends/contacts on social networks like Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, Twitter and MyBlogLog, but now I’m just bragging. Sheesh.)
A journalist by day, I’ve written a number of in-depth articles about fostering on- and offline community, though I’ve found that the subject comes up in other stories all the time, too. After speaking on a few panels and doing some informal web consulting, I feel like community is something I know in both theory and practice. In other words: I get it. I understand how community connects to all the other stuff that companies do, and I’m pretty good at breaking down marketing-speak and programmer-speak into plain English.
Although I love writing, I’m also passionate about community and the Web, and I’m excited about the possibilities. So if the right gig came along — be it a full/part-time position in New York City or a short-term consulting gig elsewhere — I’d definitely be up for getting my hands dirty. (Especially if the short-term gig happens to be in, say, London, Austin, San Francisco, or somewhere equally awesome.) Mostly, I’m looking for an idea/company/team I can believe in.
If you’ve got my dream job, I’d love to hear from you. Perhaps a meetup at SXSW? Or BlogHer Business?
